This man was a true legend, no ordinary Astartes, and his presence confirmed that this was no ordinary mission. A truly massive suit of armor covered his body, gleaming emerald like the rest of the marines and only accentuating how much larger he was than them. A true giant that stood near the cockpit of the craft, forced to duck his head, lest he be assaulted by the turbulence of atmospheric re-entry. No, what kept them silent, and filled the cabin with a palpable unease, was the twelfth occupant.

They were confident in their own abilities. This was not the result of a nervous reluctance to descend to the planet below, as even these Astartes, fresh as they were, had seen years of combat.

It’s cargo was but a single full squad of Tactical Marines and a lone apothecary, unnaturally quiet even as they checked and rechecked their arms and armaments. The Thunderhawk was silent, save for the groan of hull as the pilot began the long descent from orbit. The symbol of a white dragon was proudly displayed along the crafts nose, a declaration that this craft belonged to the Salamanders, a chapter of Adeptus Astartes, Space Marines, the most elite warriors of the Imperium of Man. Like the ship it had left, this craft, known as a Thunderhawk, was a rich emerald in color, and shared the same boxy shape of its mothership. To any that might have looked to the stars, with the proper equipment, they may have seen the starship and the much smaller landing craft that departed from it. Its engines thrummed quietly, holding the vessel in stable orbit over the planet, with no attempt at movement. This ship, massive in scale and clad in green armor plating, was but a speck against the expanse of oceans and continents from the planet it orbited.

It deposited a lone emerald ship into the orbit of the nearest planet, raking its sides with tendrils of raw energy, before spiraling into nonexistence as quickly as it had arrived, and peace returned to the system. Chapter 1.1It was in a system far from the reach of the Imperium that the very fabric of reality was torn asunder, the barrier between the Immaterium and Materium tearing open in a dazzling display of purple and blue energy that writhed and pulsed in the void of space.
